Haja Amina Appi is renowned for her expertise in the Tausug weaving method known as pis siyabit, which utilizes a backstrap loom. She makes beautiful designs and patterns using natural fibers like pineapple, cotton, and silk to showcase the rich cultural legacy of the Tausug people.

 

The Hibla ng Lahing Filipino textile gallery at the National Museum of the Philippines is one exhibition and event that has included her works. She has also taken part in international competitions to display her weaving abilities and promote traditional textiles from the Philippines.

 

Haja Amina Appi is praised for her weaving abilities, as well as, for her work maintaining and advancing Tausug culture and traditions. In addition to advocating for the recognition and preservation of indigenous Tausug skills, she teaches weaving to the younger generation.
